Scar Camouflage Scalp Micropigmentation — Kent
Whether it's FUE dot scars, a FUT strip scar or a traumatic injury scar on the scalp — SMP can make them virtually invisible. Mark Terrell at ScalpLiners in Whitstable, Kent, is highly experienced in scar camouflage, replicating the natural appearance of hair follicles directly over scar tissue.
How Scar Camouflage SMP Works
Scalp scar camouflage using SMP is one of the most in-demand treatments at ScalpLiners — and one of the most transformative. It works by applying specialist pigments to scar tissue, depositing tiny dots that replicate the appearance of individual hair follicles growing through the scarred skin.
For FUE hair transplant clients, this means the individual extraction dots at the back of the scalp — which can appear as clusters of pale or pinkish circles — become virtually indistinguishable from the surrounding follicles. For FUT strip scar clients, the linear scar at the back of the head is broken up and darkened to match the surrounding scalp.
Scar tissue behaves differently from normal scalp skin — it is often smoother, paler and less receptive to pigment on the first pass. Mark accounts for this with technique adjustments and additional sessions where needed. The 12-month guarantee covers the result regardless of how the scar tissue responds.
Types of Scar We Treat
Follicular Unit Extraction leaves tiny circular extraction marks — often hundreds or thousands of them — across the donor area at the back and sides of the scalp. When hair is worn short, these can become visible as pale dots. SMP replicates follicle density over and between the extraction points, making them completely invisible.
Follicular Unit Transplantation (strip surgery) leaves a linear scar running horizontally across the back of the scalp. This scar can range from a fine line to a wide, raised band depending on the healing and surgeon. SMP applies pigment directly to the scar, breaking up the pale line and making it blend seamlessly with the surrounding shaved scalp.
Accidents, surgery or other trauma can leave scars on the scalp where hair no longer grows. Depending on the size, location and texture of the scar, SMP can camouflage it effectively by adding follicle density to the scar area. Mark assesses each scar individually at the free consultation to confirm suitability.
Many clients combine scar camouflage with a broader SMP treatment — for example, having FUE scars covered alongside a full density treatment or hairline restoration. Both can be addressed in the same course of sessions, with pricing adjusted accordingly at the consultation.
