Scalp micropigmentation for a receding hairline works by placing thousands of micro-dots of specialist pigment along and behind the hairline — precisely replicating the look of freshly grown hair follicles. Hairline SMP is best suited to men in the earlier stages of hair loss — Norwood 1 through 3 — where the primary concern is a retreating frontal or temple hairline rather than widespread thinning across the crown or top of the head.

It is also an excellent choice for men who have had a hair transplant and want to soften and refine the transplanted hairline, or add density at the front where the transplanted follicles haven't fully covered.

The Treatment Process

Three Sessions to a New Hairline

Consultation

Mark assesses your hairline, face shape and existing hair. A bespoke hairline design is discussed — height, shape and the degree of softness or sharpness. No pigment until you're completely happy.

Session One

The hairline is drawn on with a skin marker. Once confirmed, the first layer of pigment is applied. It settles lighter over the following 10–14 days as the skin heals and pigment stabilises.

Session Two

Density and depth are added through the hairline zone. Adjustments are made based on how the first session has settled. The hairline begins to look fully defined and natural.

Session Three

Final refinement. The hairline is perfected and any fine detail work completed. The 12-month guarantee begins. You leave with a complete, natural-looking hairline.

Do I have to shave my head for hairline SMP?
No. Hairline SMP works by blending into your existing hair. You do not need to shave your head — the treatment adds the appearance of density at the hairline and temples, and blends with whatever hair you currently have. You keep your existing style.
Can SMP restore a receding hairline?
Yes — SMP recreates the appearance of a defined hairline by replicating individual hair follicles along the hairline and into the temples. It does not grow new hair, but the visual result is a restored, sharp and natural-looking hairline. Most people cannot tell the difference.
Will the hairline look straight and unnatural?
Not with Mark's technique. A natural hairline is never perfectly straight — it has a soft, irregular edge with micro-variations in depth and density. Mark replicates this precisely, drawing on the hairline in advance so you can approve the design before anything is applied. The end result is consistently mistaken for a natural hairline.
What if my hair continues to recede after the treatment?
Mark designs hairlines conservatively, taking into account likely future recession. If loss continues beyond the treated area over time, a top-up session can extend the coverage. We design with the future in mind — the goal is a hairline that still looks appropriate as you age.
How many sessions are needed for hairline SMP?
