The Classification System
The Hamilton-Norwood Scale is the standard classification system for male pattern baldness, first developed in the 1950s and refined in 1975. It divides hair loss into seven progressive stages — from a full head of hair at Stage 1 to the classic horseshoe pattern at Stage 7. Knowing your stage is the first step toward choosing the right treatment.

Ludwig Scale — Women's Hair Thinning
The Ludwig Scale classifies female pattern hair loss into three stages. Unlike male pattern loss, it presents as diffuse thinning across the top of the scalp rather than recession. Women's SMP works with existing hair to create the appearance of greater density — no shaving required.
